ARE's LGBTQ+ Center

AIDS Response Effort, Inc. (ARE) established the LGBTQ+ Center in late 2023 to address a variety of needs of the LGBTQ+ community in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, including healthcare disparities, mental health support, food insecurity and the spread of HIV, among others. Located in the City of Winchester, the Center is an affirming and nonjudgmental hub of support where community members and their families may attend educational workshops and support groups as well as receive sexual health support and comprehensive harm reduction services. Other services include: ■ Free HIV, STI and Hepatitis C testing ■ Medical case management ■ Access to free or low-cost healthcare, including psychological & oral care ■ Substance abuse services ■ Community education & specialized training for providers, educators & employers ■ Sexual health services ■ Queer Connections social & support network ■ Community food garden ■ Nutrition & wellness classes ■ Trans closet ■ LGBTQ library
